ACT NOW: Members of the Indiana General Assembly are seeking to enact a strong election-integrity bill that would go a long way toward ensuring the integrity of Indiana elections. It is imperative that legislators pass this bill and reject every attempt to weaken it.
House Bill No. 1286 (HB 1286) is sponsored by Representative Lorissa Sweet (R-Wabash). If enacted, it would implement multiple important election-integrity reforms and, thus, be a major step in the right direction. Among other reforms, the bill would require:
- Secure, hand-marked paper ballots;
- Hand-counted ballots;
- Protection of precincts as the primary method of voting;
- Prohibition of internet voting, drop boxes, ballot harvesting, early voting, and mass mail-in voting;
- Video recording of polling place;
- Elections being held exclusively on election day;
- Proof of citizenship to vote;
- Greater election transparency and stronger auditing requirements;
- Election results must be announced the night of the election; and
- Secure transmission of data for citizens.
Although the Left and the “mainstream” media continually denies the existence of voter fraud, its existence is confirmed, including in Indiana. For example, there have been multiple cases dating back years involving election fraud. Furthermore, Indiana uses voting machines that have been proven to be vulnerable to hacking.
The reforms in HB 1286 are consistent with The John Birch Society’s election-integrity recommendations. It is imperative that state legislators enact these reforms and reject all attempts to water down or block them.
