Members of the Indiana General Assembly are seeking to ensure public libraries are safe for all children by giving local communities oversight of library expenditures.

Senate Bill No. 32 (SB 32), sponsored by Senator Jim Tomes (R-Evansville), would give communities the ability to see library expenditures on books, ensuring communities will be able to see what is being pushed and promoted in their cities and towns. Moreover, it would give power back to taxpayers and out of the hands of unelected officials. Additionally, SB 32 builds on House Enrolled Act No. 1447, enacted last year, which allows parents to request removal of obscene content from school libraries.

As more and more parents and community members across Indiana wake up to the fact that public libraries are infiltrated with extreme obscenity not suitable for children, including sexual performances. SB 32 would help protect the innocence of Hoosier children, and help ensure that taxpayers have control and can hold their local public libraries accountable.

SB 32 includes a provision that would require public libraries to submit an annual budget in the same manner as other county departments. These annual budgets will be required to include a separate line item for each function outside the core public function of the library under IC36-12-16-2. This would include line items for nonessential functions, such as drag queen story hours and performances. These libraries are often partnered with the American Library Association, which is led by a self-described “Marxist lesbian.” SB 32 would protect children from groomers in the drag community.

Parents across Indiana have been speaking up about content that is lurking on the shelves of public libraries which a child of any age can gain access to; not to mention the sexually provocative drag performances. It’s time to stand up and protect the innocence of children throughout Indiana while at the same time giving oversight to individual communities and taxpayers.

Please contact your state representative and senator, and urge them to support SB 32.
