The Virginia General Assembly has added Amendment 77 #2c — which bans a potential audit of the 2024 presidential election — to the commonwealth budget bill. Urge Governor Glenn Youngkin to line-item veto this dangerous provision.
On February 22, the Virginia House of Delegates voted 52-47 in favor of Amendment 77 #2c to House Bill 30 (HB 30), a budget bill. If enacted, this disastrous amendment would prohibit a potential audit of the 2024 presidential election.
The amendment text states:
F.1. Notwithstanding the provisions of subsections C and D of § 24.2-671.2., Code of Virginia, a risk-limiting audit of a presidential election or an election for the nomination of candidates for the office of President shall not be conducted.
2. Notwithstanding the provisions of §§ 24.2-653.01, 24.2-671, and 24.2-678 of the Code of Virginia, local electoral boards shall, no more than 10 days following the date of the November 2024 general election, meet to determine the validity of provisional ballots, certify the results of the election, and submit the abstract of votes to the State Board of Elections.
Full forensic audits are essential to verify the accuracy and integrity of election results. Unlike other investigations, a full forensic audit can answer questions such as, “‘Did only legally eligible citizens vote, and just once?’ ‘Did the voting machines accurately report all ballots received, without any changes?’ [and] ‘Did third parties illegally change or delete any legitimate ballots, or add ballots?’”
Please contact Governor Glenn Youngkin, and urge him to line-item veto Amendment 77 #2c and defend Virginia’s ability to audit elections.
Although we provide a way to easily email legislators, we know from long experience that it takes a lot more interaction with your legislators to get your point across than that provided by emails alone.
That's why we provide an easy way not only to email them, but to contact them by phone, tweet, and even video message them.
