URGENT: Sound-money bill SB 232 has passed out of the House Committee on Commerce by a 12-3 votes, sending it to the full House for consideration. The committee made some technical amendments, so if the bill passes the House, it will need to return to the Senate for consideration. Please contact your state legislators, and urge them to support SB 232, along with HB 929, HB 714, HB 960, and SB 485!

Members of the Louisiana State Legislature are seeking to enact legislation helping restore sound money and enforce the U.S. Constitution’s monetary provisions.

Senate Bill No. 232 (SB 232) is sponsored by Senator Mark Abraham (R-Lake Charles). If enacted, it would formally recognize gold and silver as legal tender in Louisiana, an important step toward treating gold and silver as money — as the U.S. Constitution requires.

Meanwhile, House Bill No. 929 (HB 929), sponsored by Raymond Crews (R-Bossier), would require the state treasure to create rules recognizing gold and silver as legal tender.

Also, House Bill No. 714 (HB 714), House Bill No. 960 (HB 960), and Senate Bill No. 485 (SB 485) are respectively sponsored by Representatives Crews and Kathy Edmonston (R-Ascension), and Senator Valarie Hodges (R-Denham Springs). If enacted, these bills would create a state-issued gold or silver transactional currency — a major step toward nullifying the Federal Reserve’s monopoly on currency.

These bills are great first steps toward enforcing the Constitution’s monetary provisions. Article I, Section 10, of the U.S. Constitution plainly states that “No State shall…make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts.” It’s long overdue that states begin to enforce this provision once again.

Additionally, these bills are important steps toward nullifying the unconstitutional Federal Reserve, which has a monopoly on money, and also reducing Georgia’s financial dependence on the federal government. They would also help Louisiana avoid the federal government’s planned “Central Bank Digital Currencies,” which severely threaten privacy and individual freedom.

Article VI of the U.S. Constitution obligates state officials to uphold the Constitution and nullify all laws not “made in Pursuance” of it. Officials at all levels of government must push back against the federal government’s many unconstitutional laws and agencies, and robustly enforce the Constitution and only those laws “made in Pursuance thereof.” SB 232, HB 929, HB 714, HB 960, and SB 485 are good models for other states to follow.

Urge your state representative and senator to support SB 232, HB 929, HB 714, HB 960, and SB 485, and to fully restore sound money in Louisiana.
