Members of the Maine Legislature are seeking to enact a radical bill that severely erodes parental rights while promoting an extreme “LGBT+” agenda.
Legislative Document 227 (LD 227) has been introduced in the Legislature. If enacted, it would make Maine a “sanctuary state” for minors seeking gender-mutilation surgery or abortions. Specifically, it would prohibit parents from stopping their minor children from undergoing gender-mutilation surgery or obtain an abortion.
Furthermore, LD 227 would allow children to enter Maine from outside the state for abortions or gender-mutilation surgery. Those children would be under state custody, and law enforcement would be banned from taking them back to their parents. Finally, the bill would protect doctors and other medical practitioners who assist minor children in these operations, even if against the will of their parents.
LD 227 would amount to radical government overreach into the home, violating parents’ right to raise their children as they please.
The family is the basic building block of society, and parental rights are foundational to a free and healthy society. Unfortunately, over the past many decades — and in line with Marxist ideology — parental rights have been slowly eroded and replaced by direct government supervision of children. LD 227 is an extreme and major step toward government control.
Please contact and urge your state representative and senator to oppose LD 227 and instead protect and defend parental rights.
