Members of the Illinois General Assembly are seeking to criminally punish parents for refusing to allow their children to undergo gender-mutilation surgery or get an abortion. Urge your state legislators to stop this extremist bill!

House Bill 4876 (HB 4876) is sponsored by Representative Anne Stava-Murray (D-Naperville).

If enacted, this extremist bill would change the State of Illinois’ definition of “child abuse” to include parents who “[deny] the child access to necessary medical care,” including “abortion services” and “gender-affirming services.”

In other words, HB 4876 would criminalize parents’ refusal to allow their minor children to undergo abortions or gender-mutilation surgery.

In a Facebook post, Rep. Stava-Murray quoted a pro-LGBT article falsely claiming that “gender-affirming behavior on the part of parents and other adults (teachers, grandparents, etc.) greatly improves mental health and well-being.”

HB 4876 would amount to radical government overreach into the home, violating parents’ right to raise their children as they please.

The family is the basic building block of society, and parental rights are foundational to a free and healthy society. Unfortunately, over the past many decades — and in line with Marxist ideology — parental rights have been slowly eroded and replaced by direct government supervision of children. HB 4876 is an extreme and major step toward government control.

Please contact and urge your state representative and senator to oppose HB 4876 and instead protect and defend parental rights.
