On September 1, 1983, Korean Air Lines flight 007, carrying 269 souls, was lost at sea while on route from Alaska to South Korea. The aircraft was reportedly lost at sea after having been attacked by a Soviet Sukhoi Su-15 interceptor. Among the passengers was U.S. Congressman Larry McDonald (D-Ga.), who had been named chairman of The John Birch Society earlier that year. On this the 40th anniversary of the Soviet attack on KAL 007, The John Birch Society remembers the life and legacy of Larry McDonald. We honor his: unwavering love of country, exposing of communist subversion, staunch opposition to collectivist tyranny, unmatched principled leadership in the conservative movement, and his dedication to the Society. May we never forget Larry McDonald.
