Thomas Massie Destroys BBA False Solution
Congressman Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) — one of the few consistent constitutionalists and fiscal conservatives in Congress — delivers a blunt truth bomb about proposed so-called Balanced Budget Amendments (BBAs) to the U.S. Constitution in this December 3, 2025 House Judiciary hearing clip. Representative Massie explains how a BBA to the Constitution would not force Washington to balance anything, but would instead legalize new loopholes in the Constitution to justify and maintain Congress’s unconstitutional spending spree. Massie points out that recent Continuing Resolutions (CRs) easily sailed through with 77–85-percent bipartisan support, easily surpassing the supermajority thresholds included in virtually every proposed BBA. In other words, Congress already has the votes to ignore any “balanced budget” rule.
A Balanced Budget Amendment wouldn’t restrain Congress’ glutinous appetite for unconstitutional splurging. It would protect and constitutionalize unbalanced budgets, lock in endless spending, guarantee perpetual wars to justify not balancing the budget, and give Americans a false sense of fiscal discipline while Washington keeps borrowing and spending without limits. Rather than proposing and passing a BBA, Massie explains that the best way to balance the federal budget is to elect constitutionalists to Congress won’t vote in favor of all the bloated CRs that all of his Democrat and Republican colleagues keep voting for year after year.
