On September 1, 1983, the world awoke to the news that Korean Airlines Flight Seven had been shot down by Soviet military jets after it strayed into Soviet airspace. But the fact that Congressman Larry McDonald, Chairman of the Board for The John Birch Society, was on-board, along with 268 others, seemed to be an inconsequential piece of news for the media and for most of those in Reagan administration.
