Please contact your state legislators and urge them to oppose S4589, A5796, S1796, and A5825. Inform them of how these bills threaten educational freedom and parental rights, and urge them to completely remove the government from homeschooling and other forms of education.
Why it Matters
URGENT: A fourth anti-homeschooling bill, A5825, has been introduced, intensifying efforts to restrict homeschooling in the Garden State. Contact your state legislators, and urge them to oppose these disastrous bills.
Members of the New Jersey Legislature are seeking to pass tyrannical legislation that would massively increase government restrictions on homeschooling.
Senate, No. 4589 (S4589) and Assembly, No. 5796 (A5796) would require homeschooling parents to meet annually with officials from the local school district. Part of the reason for this would be to allow the school-district officials “to conduct a general health and wellness check of the child.”
Additionally, Senate, No. 1796 (S1796) would require homeschooling parents to file annual reports to the local school district that they plan on homeschooling that year. School districts would also be effectively required to keep a registry of homeschool children residing in their districts.
Meanwhile, Assembly, No. 5825 (A5825) would also require homeschooling parents to file annual reports to the local school district that they plan on homeschooling that year. It would also require parents to submit the curriculum they use, and for homeschooled children to be “evaluated” each year to determine their “progress.”
S4589, A5796, S1796, and A5825 would dangerously entangle government in parental rights, setting the foundation for restrictions on parents’ ability to freely homeschool their children.
These bills come as local media pushes the propaganda notion that homeschooling in New Jersey is dangerously unregulated, and that children are vulnerable to abuse because of that.
These bills and the push for government oversight of homeschooling is not surprising. Although homeschooling has grown significantly in popularity, leftists and anti-Christians, upset at their weakening stranglehold over children’s education, are seeking to tightly regulate and even outright ban it. For example, Harvard Law School had planned an anti-homeschooling summit in 2020, while far-left teachers unions are campaigning against it. Meanwhile, homeschooling is heavily regulated or banned outright in many countries worldwide; multiple homeschooling families have had to flee their countries to avoid persecution.
Accordingly, tell your state legislators to oppose S4589, A5796, S1796, and A5825, and to completely remove the government from homeschooling and other forms of education.
