A proposed amendment to the Constitution of Virginia has been introduced by the Virginia Legislature — House Joint Resolution No. 1 (HJ 1), which establishes a “fundamental right to reproductive freedom,” guaranteeing taxpayer-funded abortions, transgender procedures, and in vitro fertilization treatment. It is imperative that state legislators reject this resolution and instead stand uncompromisingly for all preborn human life — without exceptions!
Additionally, this bill would guarantee a right to abortion without restrictions, transgender procedures and medications, while offering no exceptions for healthcare providers who conscientiously object to these performing these procedures, while providing legal protection to individuals aiding or assisting in obtaining an abortion:
The Commonwealth shall not penalize, prosecute, or otherwise take adverse action against an individual based on such individual’s own exercise of this fundamental right or such individual’s own actual, potential, perceived, or alleged pregnancy outcomes, including miscarriage, stillbirth, or abortion. The Commonwealth shall not penalize, prosecute, or otherwise take adverse action against any individual for aiding or assisting another individual in exercising such other individual’s right to reproductive freedom with such other individual’s voluntary consent.
Dr. Sheila M Furey, MD, warns that the most prominent advocates for HJ 1 are those within the medical and pharmaceutical industries, who stand to profit from abortion, the sale of fetal tissues, and transgender medical interventions on children:
It is crucial for everyone to understand that those who advocate most strongly for this legislation are those who profit from it. Planned Parenthood, hospitals, doctors, and the pharmaceutical industry reap the profits from murdering children in the womb, the sale of tissues and organs from aborted children and the chemical and surgical castration and mutilation of children.
If passed by the Virginia General Assembly, HJ 1 will add a section numbered 11-A to Article 1 (Bill of Rights) of the Constitution of Virginia. The proposed amendment reads:
Section 11-A. Fundamental right to reproductive freedom. That every individual has the fundamental right to reproductive freedom, including the ability to make and carry out decisions relating to one’s own prenatal care, childbirth, postpartum care, contraception, abortion care, miscarriage management, and fertility care. An individual’s right to reproductive freedom shall not be, directly or indirectly, denied, burdened, or infringed upon unless justified by a compelling state interest achieved by the least restrictive means.
At the founding of our nation, the Declaration of Independence recognized three fundamental rights — Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
This legislation is an example of the Marxist agenda’s persistent goal of abolishing our Republic — dehumanizing preborn individuals, destruction of the family unit, and distorting the constitutional principles of law at every level of government. If passed, HJ 1 will be another example of an unconstitutional law eroding the fundamental values of our Republic.
Urge your state legislators to stop HJ 1 and boldly protect the unalienable, God-given right to life recognized by the Founding Fathers and fundamental to the values of our Republic.
