Why It Matters

Across the United States, hundreds of artificial-intelligence (AI) data centers are planned or under construction. These facilities will create the architecture for totalitarian control over our lives, threatening our very freedom. The Insiders and the Deep State are also using “China” as an excuse to drum up support for the very data centers that will be used to create a technocratic, digital police state in the United States.

AI data centers are problematic for many reasons, including their high usage of energy, water, and farmland, and how they encourage the use of eminent domain.

Additionally, data centers’ role in the growth of AI is dangerous. As The New American noted in its June 2026 cover-story article “The AI Prison Planet” (available as a reprint), “AI can be a foundational tool for building a government system that will control every facet of our lives,” including via digital IDs, a central bank digital currency, and internet voting.

The article also noted:

Data centers themselves present myriad dangers…. We are witnessing an explosion of AI data centers being built across the nation. According to the James Madison Institute, “the United States maintains clear dominance in this sector, housing approximately 5,300 operational data centers, representing 45% of the global total of 11,800 facilities.” The Washington Examiner reports that in the United States, Virginia leads the pack, with 320 in operation, followed by Texas, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Ohio.

These numbers are set to skyrocket once the data centers currently planned and under construction are complete. If you don’t already have one in your backyard, the likelihood is high that you soon will. Now is the time to prepare to push back.

The companies building AI data centers are receiving significant government incentives to build. How many data centers would be built if we simply upheld free enterprise and eliminated all government favoritism? Additionally, state governments cooperate closely with federal law enforcement, including participation in surveillance-state programs.

To stop AI data centers, states should do the following:

  1. Prohibit or eliminate all government incentives for data centers, and ban public-private partnerships.
  2. Nullify all unconstitutional federal surveillance-state laws and programs.
