“Because I believe my government!” he insisted. He reasoned that the people running our government simply knew more than we did. "Spain was the first, for a long time the greatest, of the modern imperialist states,” Sumner wrote. “The United States, by its historical origin, its traditions, and its principles, is the chief representative of the revolt and reaction against that kind of state. I intend to show that, by the line of action now proposed to us, which we call expansion and imperialism, we are throwing away some of the most important elements of the American symbol and are adopting some of the most important elements of the Spanish symbol." In 1984, several years before we learned of Ronald Reagan’s Alzheimer’s affliction, Democratic presidential candidate and former vice president Walter Mondale charged that America under Reagan was suffering from “government by amnesia.” Yes, Mondale said that—but I can’t remember why. Nevertheless, all that is required is what Mondale told us we already acquired a quarter of a century ago: “government by amnesia.”

Why Saddam fell Saddam Hussein was trying to do the impossible. He intended to rebuild the city of Babylon. Alexander the Great was also going to rebuild Babylon, but he died suddenly. Saddam should have read God’s Bible and believed it. Notice what it says: Isaiah 13:19-22--- And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. 20It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there. 21But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there. 22And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged. Jeremiah 51:60-62 60So Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written against Babylon. 61And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon, and shalt see, and shalt read all these words; 62Then shalt thou say, O LORD, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever. I don’t see how anything could be more clear then that. |

Redunant repetition! "The transformation of a peaceful society into a militarized state is dangerous to the liberties of a free people." Redundancy! Insightful, witty article, Mr. Kenny. Thanks for that article link. By the way, the "shock and awe" is to cow our citizenry as well. But freemen do not so easily frighten. |

... One of the surest ways to bankrupt a nation fiscally and socially, is to engage it constantly in warfare - especially when funding both sides, either directly or indirectly. |

Libertine Leftists This may not fit here, but when referring to leftists I have begun to call them "libertine leftists." |
