Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has revealed more of her world view of humans and their worth.

In an interview with George Stephanopoulos for ABC, Pelosi attempted to defend the new $825 billion economic stimulus package which contains a provision that individual states be reimbursed for contraceptives and other “family planning” services. 

In the interview, Stephanopoulos asked, "Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus?” And Pelosi responded:

Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those — one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.

You can tell in the video of the interview that she was struggling to justify the inclusion of this provision, which has nothing whatsoever to do with economic stimuli, in the so-called stimulus bill. She is, however, parroting the party line that condoms, birth control pills, IUDs, the patch and the diaphragm are economic development — a line we’ve see used to promote contraception and abortion in developing countries by many international agencies that profit from both, and the UN. 

In the perverse world of Pelosi politics, more federal money for welfare, socialized medicine and contraceptives, along with its natural extension, abortion, is seen as new hope for what ails humanity and the economy. 

The demographics of the United States now show that it is top-heavy with aging baby boomers; due to the practice of contraception by those very same baby boomers, there are not enough live births to maintain a decent death-to-birth ratio. Elderly dependents now outnumber young producers, both a cultural and economic disaster waiting to happen.

In Europe, low fertility rates are being addressed. In order to reverse the consequences of widespread contraception, France is paying mothers full-time wages to stop work and have more babies — socialistic yes, but they are desperate to stop the birth dearth. Other countries are offering quite lucrative bonuses and policies to increase family size — Sweden, Ireland, Germany, Portugal, and Japan are a few. The Europeans have figured out that it takes humans to support and grow the economy.

In America, though, Pelosi wants to subsidize a culture that is already obsessed with sex by using tax dollars as an entitlement to even more sex without consequences. The effect on society could be catastrophic, particularly on the young. Promiscuity will most certainly increase, and sadly, the suppression of fertility has the effect of turning women into objects of sex and manipulation. There's also the pesky matter of constitutionality — exactly when and where did the Founders write in the Constitution that Congress should use taxpayer dollars to fund contraception?

The ethics and morality of such a policy should not even be considered in the halls of Congress. Those who promote personal liberty in the form of “reproductive rights” had best be paying for it themselves, and not placing the burden and the immorality of it on the rest of us.
