How do you get in to the Community with all of our Groups ??
Overall I'm disappointed....I expected more...you've left alot of room on the main page and nothing on John Birch.
If we can't defend the Honor and Reputation of John Birch, then we have no chance of winning the fight for freedom. A large part of the Main Page should be devoted to him with commentaries, Pictures, etc. Everyone who visits this site should come away knowing about The American hero John Birch !!

Sorry you're disappointed. We'll keep trying to add improvements. Here's a link to an article on John Birch:

To view your groups, click on the "Community" link at the top of the screen (4th link in from the left), and once you load the Community homepage, hover over "Applications" and go to "Groups".

I think there should be a link to TNA on the front page.

Two comments about the overall JBS web site, with the rest of my suggestions directed at the JBS Community.
Regarding the overall JBS web site: 1. The color tone is not consistent with our motto, "Standing for Family and Freedom". This motto invokes a vision of warmth, and needs warm colors like red, orange and yellow to complement that image. Red, white and Blue would be good. Unfortunately, the new site is colored a steely gray that conveys a cold feeling, not consistent with "Family and Freedom". 2. Articles from The New American are some of our most powerful weapons. A prominent link to TNA is needed on the JBS home page.
Most of my suggestions relate to the JBS Community portion of the sight as follows:
One of the major shortcomings is in the lack of ease in navigating the site. So much so that it is difficult for an interested party to determine how to join one of the community groups. Here are some suggestions for the JBS Community:
1. One of the more significant navigation problems is in quickly finding a particular group. On the Community home page, direct links are needed to "All JBS Groups", "My Groups"' and a person's page-in my case, "Citizen Joe". 2. The page that lists "JBS Groups" needs to be in an order that allows someone seeking to join a group to easily find that group if they know the name. This could be accomplished by sorting them in alphabetical oder by Group name. An additional geographical sorting by state would help the person identify local groups that he would be interested in joining. The greatest difficulty that I have experienced is in explaining to someone the cumbersom process currently necessary for them to join a group. This process should be made effortless such that we can build membership in the communities. 3. On a personal page, the applications tab, change "groups" to "my groups" and add a link to "all JBS groups". 4. On some group pages (see JBS Georgia), there is a confusing tab, titled "Leave Group". People think this means go to another page, end up mistakenly getting out of the group and then having to rejoin. I suggest changing the tab's words to "Resign from this Group".
I believe the JBS community will become a great tool for planninng, organizing, communicating and recruiting. As I gain more experience with this tool, I will provide more suggestions.
Thanks, Citizen Joe |

Regarding the JBS Community, one of the most pressing needs is to provide the user with a "Help" page. The intended function and uses of sections such as wall, poke, discussion, etc. need to be defined. Instuction on navigating the site is also a big need. Descriptions of the functions and uses of the available applications would also be helpful. In order to increase usage of the JBS Community, it is essential that users increase their skills in utilizing the features of the site. Citizen Joe |

good work, only getting better. Is there a spell check and youtube download available? I now see it is a bit awkward to move around the site. Keep up with the good works. |

Again, articles from The New American are some of our most powerful weapons. A prominent link to TNA is needed on the JBS home page.
If not a full feature on the home page, surely TNA deserves a link under "News Center" along with BirchTube and JBS TV.

What are you specifically finding is hard to navigate? Any suggestions are welcome so that we can better improve the user-friendly status of the website.
Thanks!

It's a great start. One thing I would suggest is a reporting system for spammers, the normal or that which is intended to disrupt. I already got one steamy friends request from hot-lips or some such user id, and the opposition will surely find this a convenient tool for distraction.
The Education section: I think you are working too hard and not getting the result you really want. Solution: Simply attach documents that represent where we stand, such as from the Foundation For Economic Education and others. No need to re-invent the wheel, there is much material and better written, with the advantage of having an outside agreement.
Keep up the good work!

Great to see the new link to The New American magazine under "News Center" on the JBS web site. TNA is a valuable asset that viewers can now access from JBS.org.

We'll put some TNA artwork up in the News Center soon as well.

On the JBS homepage, one of the buttons in the center of the page reads "News-click here to stay current". This link leads to the "JBS News Center".
Yet, on the ribbon at the top of the home page, there is a category titled "News Center" which has links to Birchtube, JBS TV and The New American, however it does not have a link to the "JBS News Center" reached through the button at the center of the home page.

On a given community group page-for instance-"North Georgia Freedom watch", on the ribbon where "Friends" is featured, and on that drop down menu click on "Invite Friends", you arrive at directions that tell you to add the emails for friends that you want to invite to join the group.
A problem arises because, you may only know the Username for the invitee, not their email address.

The invite friends feature is set up to be used to invite your friends who are not yet in the JBS community to become members of the community. As a result it will only accept email addresses. It will then send a message to those who have been invited to come to the site and join the community. It is a great way to get those you know involved in our efforts.
Within the community, if you know the username of someone who you wish to connect with, use the community search function to search on that username. When you find them, visit their profile page and click "add as friend" to add them to your friends list. After they accept your request, you will receive their activity stream in your profile and they will receive yours. This is similar to the way in which Twitter functions. You can use your status field at the top of your profile to create this type of "microblog" that will then be distributed via your activity stream to all your friends. It will also be posted on the main activity stream on the homepage of the community. |

In your next to last sentence, you refer to a "status" field. I do not find anything similar to this. Could it go under another name? |

To Publius, RE: "Invite Friends"
Confusion arises due to conflicting usages of the word, "Friends".
In everyday usage, "friends" means those who we know and have come to like. This is the usage that is applied on the JBS Community page, "Invite Friends" tab when inviting someone to join the JBS community. This invitation to true friends requires their email address.
On the other hand, when on a community group page and you want to invite someone to join the group, the "Invite Friends" tab means those who are already members of the JBS community and who you wish to invite to be your "friend", and who has accepted. You may not actually know this person. This invitation requires use of your "friend's" Username like mine, "Citizen Joe".
I would suggest changing the description of one of these terms in order to avoid the confusion. Since "friends" in online community parlance has a unique meaning, perhaps something like "Invite Others" would work for those you want to invite to join the JBS community, requiring their email address.
